What did receiving the Ruth and Sylvia Schwartz Children's Book Award mean to you?

It was a shock...you work away in your studio and sometimes forget that there is a bigger world out there and the fact that someone stops for a moment and takes notice and recognizes your work  takes you by surprise. but its a nice surprise.

What does private arts philanthropy mean to you as a working artist?

It has been very important, the recognition the awareness and all the opportunities that come along with it has made this life as an illustrator of books possible.
